Year 7, together with their families and friends gathered to celebrate their 'Mass of Welcome'. We are most grateful to Canon Simon Lerche, Dean of St Mary's Cathedral and Episcopal Vicar for Education who celebrated Mass for and with us. We are also most grateful to the primary school Head Teachers who were able to join us and share in our celebration.
In his homily Canon Simon reminded us of the purpose of Catholic education in working with parents to form the whole person, 'to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ' (Ephesians 4:12). Reflecting on the Gospel, Canon Simon also reminded us that just like St Matthew, and St Cuthbert, we are called to follow Christ and to live lives worthy of our vocation, our calling.
Thank you to the boys who acted as welcomers, altar servers, musicians and readers, including those who read our intercessions in different languages.
