A Catholic education for boys of all faiths and none
Offering an alternative vision of education since 1881
When people are applying to work in a school, they want to be confident that they will be happy, successful and fulfilled and that life in that school will suit them.
We are, of course, biased, but we firmly believe that St Cuthbert’s is a wonderful place to work. As a school and as a Catholic community, St Cuthbert’s is a place to be professionally stimulated, challenged and rewarded.
With over 100 staff, we have a career for everyone and employ a range of individuals in a variety of roles within our Teaching and Support staff. We are also flexible on working arrangements and have staff working, full, part and term time. We also engage the services of self-employed individuals and volunteers for specialist areas such as sports coaches or musicians.
St Cuthbert’s is a beautiful setting, hidden away in the West end of Newcastle. We have excellent facilities and superb transport links to the region and beyond. The school buildings are set in extensive grounds.
St Cuthbert’s is an excellent school. We are immensely proud of our strong academic success at all levels and and we achieve extraordinary things for and with the boys. We care deeply about results in all aspects of school life, but ultimately, we want the boys to leave as great men who are proud to have been a pupil at St Cuthbert’s.
To that end we have the highest expectations of the boys and of ourselves. We pride ourselves on a balance of tradition and innovation, proud of our heritage but willingly embracing the latest evidence-based research into educational practice and technology.
St Cuthbert’s is a thriving community. We are immensely proud of the way we foster a supportive and friendly atmosphere: relationships between all staff and between staff and boys are very strong.
St Cuthbert’s is a rewarding professional environment. We only recruit the best people to work here and the spark and energy of a talented staff body is infectious.
The Governors recognise the vital importance of staff.and we care very much about professional development; St Cuthbert’s staff as members of the Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust can expect to be challenged and supported as they develop their careers.
St Cuthbert’s is not, of course, for everyone. The intensity and challenge of working in a boys school can, at times, be an all-embracing existence. However, if you believe in a genuine all-round education, value the opportunity to help shape lives, have energy, drive, a passion for your subject and a willingness to throw yourself into a busy and dynamic community, we would love to hear from you.
We hope that this website gives you an indication of what life is like at St Cuthbert's.
