Safeguarding & Welfare

Safeguarding & Welfare

The Church recognises the personal dignity and rights of all Vulnerable People towards whom it has a special responsibility.

The Church and individual members of it undertake to take all appropriate steps to maintain a safe environment for all and to practice fully and positively Christ's Ministry towards children, young people and vulnerable adults and to respond sensitively and compassionately to their needs in order to help keep them safe from harm.

The Church authorities will liaise closely with statutory agencies to ensure that any allegations of abuse are promptly and properly responded to and where appropriate survivors supported and perpetrators held to account.

The Church wishes to ensure that its parishes and Religious Congregations have the confidence to enable vulnerable people to have peace of mind, knowing they will be cared for and loved by their Christian community.

Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service

St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School is unrelenting in its determination to maintain an unwavering focus on the safety and welfare of the children in its care. Protection of all pupils and students is the cornerstone of this school's mission.  All members of this school community undertake to support and live by the Catholic ethos and values, which are entirely consistent with creating, nurturing and maintaining a positive culture of safeguarding.

Safeguarding

The safeguarding and welfare of children is paramount in the governance of the School; St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School is committed to promoting the highest standards in policy and practice. All of our staff and volunteers receive regular safeguarding training and updates in order to provide them with the knowledge, understanding and skills to help them to effectively safeguard children effectively. Students are taught about safeguarding and know how to contact an appropriate adult (including Year Staff, Support Staff or Form Tutors) if they need support.

The school’s Leadership Team work with statutory agencies and regulators and ensure the school’s systems for safeguarding are robust and protective. Trustees are wholly committed to the safety of children as their charitable beneficiaries and have undertaken a focused programme of training and development in relation to safeguarding.  Resources and links to useful sites are available on our student and parent portals.  If you would like further details, please contact the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead, Juliana Blackie, Assistant Head: Safeguarding & Welfare at [email protected].
