Chalking of the Door

Student writing in chalk on the door for The Feast of the EpiphanyStaff and students still attending school during lockdown celebrated the Feast of The Epiphany with a liturgy in the Chapel and then by the traditional blessing of the school and chalking of the front door and Chapel door.

The Epiphany recounts the journey of the Magi (Wise Men) to Jesus shortly after his birth. Besides Mary and Joseph, it was the Magi who first understood that Jesus was the Son of God.

The symbolic letters and number chalked onto the door are 20+C+M+B+21. The letters have two meanings. Firstly, they represent the initials of the Magi- Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar. They are also an abbreviation of the Latin phrase Christus mansionem benedicat which means 'May Christ bless this house.'

The '+' represents the cross with the '20' and '21' marking the year.

'May the Lord guard our going and coming. Both now and forever.'
